Executive Summary

This has been the year of, “YES.”

Two years ago marked the anniversary of when I made the choice to stop letting the unknown affect my decisions and made a conscious effort to take more risks and challenge my limits. This simple pledge has led me to enroll in the perfect graduate program, taken me to the other side of the world to work with survivors of human trafficking in Thailand, given me the courage to transition employers after over a decade of service, and now, has lead me to the career I have always dreamed of.

Much of my recent work experience is  within the realm of Financial Management, a field I took a liking to a few years back during a transitional period in my previous employer’s history. Prior to 2011, I was working toward a very successful career in Marketing/Sales/Consumer Events. I loved the dynamic culture and work environment. The fast paced nature of day-to-day operations thrilled me; and I excelled. My professional travels took me all over the country as I planned major consumer activation campaigns for both Anheuser-Busch and SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment.  However, the security of a more analytical role appealed to me and I made the transition to a new department.

I’ve since discovered that I miss the rollercoaster ride that was my daily ‘routine’. My day isn’t complete without the opportunity to network and build relationships. I want to utilize my solution based thinking skills to collaborate with others and discover creative ways to solve problems. I long to be able to fully utilize my 7 Habits of Highly Effective People Training and dig my teeth into some serious multi-tasking. I found all of this in the Instructional Design field and am so excited to begin my career as a Solutions Engineer for Deloitte in July 2016.

I am now prepared to continue my personal evolution and engage in a field I am truly passionate about. Through the University of Tampa Instructional Design & Technology program, I have had the opportunity to challenge myself through coursework focused on human performance technology, project management, organizational development, learning theory, as well as, design of instruction for both in-person and distributed environments. I’ve developed practical skills in all of the leading ISD software, including Articulate Storyline 2, Camtasia, Adobe Captivate, Adobe Creative Cloud, and various LMS systems.

This portfolio is a small sampling of what I have been able to accomplish during my time at UT. It provides a snapshot of my work both inside and outside of the classroom, as well as, a perspective into my interests in the field. Using the drop down menu above labeled ‘Portfolio’ you can navigate through the various components of my portfolio. On each page, you will find a brief description of the artifact listed and a link to the work.

Goals

When I was composing my goal statement, I originally had a list of a million items. However, it all boiled down to this:

To make the world a better place through instructional design.

To accomplish this goal, I will:

  • Continue my research regarding the use of mobile phones in rural Northern Thailand/Myanmar in the hopes of one day putting some of my theories into practice.
  • Take advantage of all continuing educational opportunities offered through my employer in order to keep my skills current.
  • Engage in at least two IDT professional organizations (one local/one national) in a meaningful way, as a means to network and grow from the connections with other brilliant individuals in the field.
  • Provide pro-bono instructional design services to at least one non-profit organization each year as a way to gain additional experience and improve the lives of others.

Not only did I find a field that speaks to my core strengths, but also a career where I can make a meaningful difference in the world. I have truly discovered my life purpose.
